2015 SOTYH: Dashawn Jordan
With the rebirth of SkateAZ in 2016, we decided to kick off an annual tradition of announcing an official “Skater of the Year Here” (SOTYH) award to whichever Arizona ripper is most deserving. Things have developed a lot here since the early days of SkateAZ and lately it has become difficult to decide who should still be considered a “local” skater versus who is “too pro” to be considered for a SOTYH award. For that reason, we decided to institute only one rule- you can’t be in the running for SOTYH if you were legitimately in the running for Thrasher’s SOTY. Sorry Jaws. Arizona loves you and we all know you were the real SOTY!

So, for the first time ever we are proud to announce that SkateAZ’s 2015 Skater of the Year Here award goes to Dashawn Jordan! He killed every contest, put out two video parts, had a gnarly two page spread in Thrasher, and continuously blew us away with crazy instagram clips. AND on top of it all he GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL! Congratulations Dashawn! Here are some highlights that show exactly why Dashawn Jordan is SkateAZ’s 2015 SOTYH…
On March 20th, his insane, unexpected, and apparently last minute part in Dave Smith’s BB4 premiered. Two of his biggest tricks (the ASU double set bigspin and the two block kickflip) were filmed the same day! The video below starts playing at 1:48 for those tricks…
Just days later, Dashawn won best trick at Cowtown’s PhxAm and placed 9th overall.
This photo of Dashawn’s switch frontside feeble was on display at Matt Price’s Golden Hour Photo Show that weekend too.

Then in May, Cowtown introduced him as their newest team rider.

Contests don’t necessarily mean much to us at SkateAZ when electing a SOTYH, but it wouldn’t feel right to leave out that Dashawn crushed the 2015 Damn Am series:
